We received so many amazing applications for our internship program, and have now lined up our whole year with incredibly talented people. We are starting off with Maia Lehr-Sacks!
Born, bred and based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Maia’s work is centered around paper, folding and mark-making. They particularly enjoy folding grids according to a geometric sequence with a common ratio of two (2; 4; 8; 16). Amongst other things, they make books and fill them – sometimes they make books that don’t look much like books at all. They like books because they require an active participation from the viewer. The book is an enticing object in its physicality: it is an intimate thing that asks to be picked up, touched, turned around, and opened.
As you can see, Maia is an incredible book-maker already and we look forward to learning as much from them as they will learn from us!
