Designed for creatives, makers, and curious minds, these sessions explore the process of crafting books by hand — from selecting materials and preparing paper to folding, stitching, and binding. Participants leave with a beautifully handmade journal, sketchbook, or portfolio piece, along with practical skills and a deeper appreciation for the craft of bookmaking.

Our bookbinding workshops are hosted at Victoria Yards in Johannesburg and are suitable for beginners, creatives, educators and professionals interested in traditional bookbinding techniques.

These workshops not only give room for sharing the art and love of bookbinding but also give room to build connections and establish community.

Our bookbinding workshops introduce participants to the timeless craft of hand-bound books. Guided by experienced facilitators, attendees explore essential techniques such as paper selection, folding, cutting, stitching, and assembly. Through a hands-on learning experience, participants create their own unique journals, sketchbooks, or presentation folders while discovering a range of traditional and contemporary binding methods. These workshops celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and the enduring art of bookmaking.

Materials

All materials are provided.

Participants are welcome to bring anything they’d like to blend into the pulp slurry; flowers, glitter, etc. If we can blend it, it can be pulped!

We offer a range of workshop difficulty levels. From beginners whom are simply interested in learning for fun to slightly more challenging workshops for passionate future bookbinders.
