MAP by Maia Lehr-Sacks

MAP 05 25 is a small, hand-bound book about how to feel at home when returning to a city that was once familiar but is no longer. It is about how to locate ourself in time and place, trying to make sense in the absence of meaning, and meaning in the absence of sense.

It is a small, square, pocket-sized book — as if it is one square unit removed from a larger coordinate system. This artist’s book has been made as a limited edition of 36 and is full of photographs, drawings, and words, with fold-out instructions on how to fold a map, and an artwork that can be removed from the book.

Maia Lehr-Sacks (who sometimes goes by Lev) is a Johannesburg-based artist. They fold, draw, and write.
