Artist’s Recipes: the 2021 (Resilience) Edition

It’s the third wave of Covid-19 here in South Africa, and turned out to be a much more lonely, and more reflective time than the ones that had gone by previously. Now the losses are closer to home, and it has necessitated a quieter, slower approach to everything. During this time I was working on something personal; an artistic response to of one of my favourite books: Artist’s Recipes (edited by Admir Jahic and Comenius Roethlisberger).

This book features recipes from Marina Abramovic, Olafur Eliasson, Ryan Gander, Erwin Wurm, Anish Kapoor among many, many others. The recipes are sometimes a window into the artist’s everyday life, or a comedic take on art history using fresh ingredients, sometimes they don’t even feature food at all.

Given the tumultuous time we’ve had, I have begun to feel it might be time for a revised collection – a collection of recipes for resilience.
